My name is Kaeryn Bailey. I am a painter working mostly in the Fauve style.
The Fauves were a group of artists that closely followed the Impressionists. The word is French and means "wild beasts". They were so named for their wild, untamed style of painting that emphasized brilliant, arbitrary colors and simplified lines. A well known example would be Henri Matisse.
In college, when I first started painting in a similar way, one of my professors began calling me 'the little Fauve'. When I looked it up, I realized he had a point and began calling myself a Fauve painter.
I paint with a lot of emotion and from the heart. I do some things that are not traditionally Fauve: I use color to show light and shadow, and I incorporate a lot of mythology and symbolism into my work.
I work primarily in acrylic paint. I often mix it with illustrator's ink and sometimes a little watercolor pencil or oil pastel. When I am drawing, I use colored pencil or pastels. Lately, I have been working on paper primed for acrylic paint--it's cheap enough to throw away mistakes, and yet suitable for framing.
I love to do commissions! Tell me what you want and we'll go from there. Some recent commissions I have done have been fairies, dragons, goddesses, and trees. I have put pictures of some of them on my "recent works" page.
